  • Condensation Techniques - Part 2
  • 3pm–4pm, Thursday 10th October, 2002
  • Carlaw 535
  • I shall continue from where I left off last time. Particular topics I intend to cover in some detail are:

    • peakword condensation and its uses to find submodule lattices (here we generalise from an idempotent e – satisfying vee = ve for all v in V – to a word w merely satisfying Vww = Vw);
    • direct condensation without writing down the permutations;
    • the trace equation and other methods of calculating character values directly from condensed modules.

    The talk will of necessity be rather more technical than the first one.
